Andrew Schuman has focused his 25 year career on consumer driven businesses. He has been the Chairman, President and CEO of Hammond’s Candies since 2007 when he led the acquisition of the company from its founder’s family.

Hammond’s is a leading manufacturer and distributor of premium branded candies in North America. During his seven years of ownership, Hammond’s has grown revenues by $15 million. The company’s manufacturing workforce has grown from 60 to 120 employees, and it seasonally employs up to 250 individuals. In June 2011 under Andrew’s leadership, the company was recognized as one of the “50 Colorado Companies to Watch.” Hammond’s has been recognized with multiple awards for branding, innovative packaging and design.

In 2012, Andrew spearheaded the acquisition of Old Dominion Peanut Company, a 100 year-old manufacturer of brittles and nut candies. The Old Dominion acquisition more than doubled the size of the company. Currently, the combined companies employ close to 300 people. In 2013, sales exceeded $35 million. Hammond’s and Old Dominion own their respective markets and together sell in channels ranging from the dollar stores up to the highest-end retailers in North America. The company does business with Cracker Barrel, Walgreen’s, Crate & Barrel, Barnes & Nobel, Cost Plus World Market, Coldwater Creek, Sur La Table, William Sonoma, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Target and 40 out of the top 50 grocery chains in the US.

Prior to acquiring Hammond’s, Andrew was a principal in a family business operating a chain of franchised photo processing locations under the trade name Motophoto in the Washington metropolitan area, as an area sub-franchisor.He was actively involved in management, operations, and servicing of new and existing franchise locations. Over the 15 years Andrew was involved in the family business, he engineered the acquisition and sale of more than 20 different companies as part of the regional growth, managing more than $25 million in annual sales. He was awarded the President’s Award at the Motophoto International Convention in 2001 for superior performance as a multiple unit franchisee and for his contributions to the company’s franchise system.In early 2006, after several challenging years in a changing market impacted by digital photography, he divested his interest in the family business and actively sought a new venture that would be equally as challenging and rewarding which became Hammond’s Candies.

Andrew lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife Lori and their three children.

He received a B.A. in International Relations, Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA in finance from The George Washington School of Business and Public Management.
